Action Taken Against Unfit school Vehicles
Authorities have temporarily suspended the licences of 66 school vehicles found to be operating without meeting required safety standards in Chengalpattu district and kanchipuram district.
The action was taken following vehicle inspections conducted by transport and regional authorities as part of routine safety checks before the academic season.
Deficiencies Found During Inspection
Officials stated that several school vehicles were found to have safety-related deficiencies and technical shortcomings during the inspection process. These reportedly included:
Poor vehicle maintenance
Lack of emergency safety equipment
Faulty lights and warning systems
Incomplete documentation
Structural and fitness-related issues
Authorities said the vehicles were deemed unfit for transporting students until the identified defects are rectified.
Temporary Suspension Until Compliance
The licences of the affected vehicles have been temporarily cancelled, and operators have been instructed to immediately address the shortcomings and renew their fitness and safety certificates before resuming service.
Transport department officials emphasized that student safety remains the top priority and warned that strict action would continue against vehicles violating transport regulations.
Orders Issued to school Managements
School administrations and vehicle operators have reportedly been directed to complete all repair and compliance procedures within the stipulated period. Only after reinspection and approval from transport authorities will the vehicles be permitted to operate again.
Officials also advised educational institutions to regularly monitor the condition of vehicles used for student transportation.

The inspections were carried out to ensure that school children travel in safe and properly maintained vehicles. Authorities said surprise inspections and monitoring drives would continue across tamil Nadu to prevent accidents and enforce transport safety norms.
