This year 2021 was a revival of tamil cinema in so many ways. Many films like 'Master' and 'Doctor' made a thearitical release after a long time. Even OTT also had a steady output which was alternative for tamil cinema. Below are the Top ten tamil films which were creatively new yet following the norms.

10. Kutty story: This movie is an anthology having four shorts in it. gautham Menon's romance and AL Vijay's story was terrific. There was also surprising venkat Prabhu's love drama and family drama by Nalan Kumaraswamy.

7. Maanaadu: venkat Prabhu's film makes it unpredictable and the action sequences are so massy yet accessible. SJ Suryah played a maniacal villain and simbu is shown playing subtle and made to underplay. 
6.Mughizh: This film is known for its simplicity. It shows realistic dialogue and only 62 minute runtime. The story revolves around everyday lives which is very heart warming.
5.Writer: The best part of this movie is the faith in revolution. The film revolves around hope even though you are locked in tough situation.

4. Karnan: This movie is of magical realism and also mass cinema. The director talks about many community of people and each having a inner life.

3. Maadathy: This movie is a horror, folklore drama. Cinematically it is a brave film. This film is not embraced by the tamil Audience.

2. Doctor: Sivakarthikeyan's doctor is the biggest comeback of 2021. The director Nelson Dilipkumar makes the film in a larger and more ambitious canvas. The main positive of the film is the comedy and jokes which is more accessible to all audience.
1.Sarpatta Parambarai: The number one in the list is Sarpatta Parambarai where the director shows a intricate piece of work in this film. It is a simple story of a boxer who struggles achieve success in his life.
