Tesla, the iconic electric vehicle maker owned by Elon Musk, has officially begun deliveries in India. The first Model Y has been handed over to a proud owner in mumbai, marking a historic moment for the country’s EV market. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. A Historic Delivery in Mumbai

More than a month after opening its first showroom in india, tesla delivered its first Model Y at the Tesla Experience Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. The recipient was Maharashtra Transport minister Pratap Sarnaik, who took delivery of a white Model Y on a special day for indian EV enthusiasts.

2. The Proud Owner Speaks

Minister Sarnaik expressed his joy:

“I am very happy to have received the first tesla in India. I did not get this car at any discount; I bought it by paying the full amount. I plan to use this tesla to drop my grandson off at school so that more people see it and are encouraged to adopt electric vehicles.”

His son, Purvesh, added that the car will also serve daily family needs, from gym trips to errands, while promoting sustainability and a cleaner environment.

3. Tesla Bookings and Market Entry

Tesla has reportedly received 600 bookings in india so far, which is slightly below the company’s expectations. The first batch of cars, estimated between 350 and 500 units, is arriving from shanghai in early september 2025.
