While the price of petrol and diesel has not increased in the last 5 months, suddenly autos and taxis have increased. The increase in fares has caused a great shock among the public. In metropolitan cities like delhi, where buses and trains are not available, people rely heavily on autos and taxis. While fair fares have been charged in autos and taxis, suddenly the fares have been hiked, which is a disaster for the middle class.
In a recent notification, the delhi government has permitted to increase in auto and taxi fares. According to this, the minimum auto fare will be increased by Rs 5 per kilometer and AC and non-AC taxi fares will be increased by Rs 4 and Rs 3 respectively. Social activists are saying that this tariff hike will not affect the rich people to a great extent, but it will affect the poor and the middle class.
After this fare hike, the minimum fare for autos will increase from Rs.25 to Rs.30. After that, the per kilometer fare has also been increased from Rs.9.50 to Rs.11 per kilometer. As far as taxis are concerned, the rate for non-AC vehicles has been increased from Rs.14 to Rs.17 per kilometer and for AC vehicles from Rs.16 to Rs.20 per kilometer.
While the basic fare for autos was revised in 2020, now it has been revised again after two years. But at the same time, the fares for black and yellow taxis, economy taxis, and premium taxis have been revised after 9 years.
