In a stampede that occurred on sunday in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, during the opposition telugu Desam Party's (TDP) distribution of sankranti presents to the underprivileged, three ladies were killed and several more were injured. The incident is the second of its kind in less than a week, and it took place after tdp president and former chief minister N. chandrababu naidu had departed the location after kicking off the event. On december 28, a stampede at Naidu's road show in Kundukur town, nellore district, claimed the lives of eight persons, including two ladies.

The stampede on sunday happened when the tdp distributed sankranti gifts to the less fortunate in collaboration with a charitable organisation in the names of ntr Janata Vastralu and Chandranna Kanuka. There was a long line of women waiting to accept the gifts. The stampede was caused when some of the women broke through the line and attempted to advance quickly. A woman passed away immediately, and two other people perished at government General Hospital.

Senior police officers went to the location. The initiative, according to an officer, was put on hold shortly after the stampede. The kits would be supplied to the beneficiaries' homes who received tokens, according to tdp leaders. On december 28, during the tdp chief's road show at Kundukur town, eight people, including two ladies, perished and five others were hurt after they fell in a drain as a result of a stampede. The tdp has announced ex-gratia payments of Rs. 24 lakh to each of the relatives of the deceased, compared to ex-gratia payments of Rs. 2 lakh from the prime minister and the chief minister, Y.S. jagan Mohan Reddy.
