As most of the applicants for the 776 flats constructed by the tamil Nadu Urban Housing Development Board in Ulundurpet were found to be ineligible, the collector of Kallakurichi has announced that only the eligible should apply. Apartments are being constructed by the tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board on a 7.5 acre plot of land behind government ITI, Ulundurpet, Kallakurichi District. The work for 776 flats of 400 square feet each at a cost of Rs.81 crore was started in 2020 and is now nearing completion.

Applicants for this residence should reside in Ulundurpet Municipality area. Annual income should be less than Rs.3 lakhs. It was announced that only those who have the qualifications of not owning their own house can apply. They also mentioned that they have to pay Rs.84 thousand each for the 264 flats in the first phase and Rs.2.67 lakh each for the 512 flats built in the second phase.

Meanwhile, it is said that in the previous regime, the residents were selected and a certain amount was received from them. While the keys were to be given to those selected, the work was interrupted due to the change of government. A situation arose where housing applicants could not be allotted houses.

Meanwhile, out of 738 applicants, it was revealed that only 34 people met the eligibility requirements set by the government. In this regard, Ulundurpet mla Manikannan spoke in the Legislative Assembly. Then the tamilnadu housing authorities ordered an inspection of the residential areas and the applicants.

Following this, district collector shravan Kumar conducted an inspection of the selected beneficiaries who had applied for the residence. As it has been proved that only 34 of them are qualified persons, he has instructed the authorities to allocate residence only on the basis of qualifications. Also advertisement is being done in Ulundurpet Municipality regarding residential allotment. Through this, 1,523 people have applied for new housing.

When Ulundurpet mla Manikannan was asked about this, he said, "In the last regime, they made some mistakes in the emergency. Now they have been identified and only fully qualified candidates will be selected, said the Collector. Therefore, without the interference of political parties, there is hope that the real beneficiaries will get housing," he said.
