Rudra Thandavam, directed by Mohan G, begins as a standard crime thriller, with an ethical policeman, Rudra Prabhakaran (Richard Rishi), apprehending the drug gang in North Chennai. The sections illustrating the drug mafia's underworld operations are extremely detailed. It's startling to learn that young people in tamil Nadu abuse cheap narcotics and become addicted to them.

Mohan has also documented how the drug cartel utilizes religion and the caste system to deflect attention away from the case. Another intriguing perspective is that of the Crypto Religious people! Although the director is knowledgeable about his subject, he lacks craft flair. Mohan has come a long way since his first picture Draupathi; the graphics are good, and he has some good actors like Radha Ravi, Thambi Ramaiah, and gautham Menon, but the screenplay needs to be refined, and the treatment needs to be updated to reflect current trends.

Richard, who does have a long road ahead to go, has also given a stronger performance as a result of Mohan's efforts. Rudra Thandavam would have been great as a popular crime thriller, but after the first part, it becomes a long legal drama, despite the fact that the facts dealt with are fresh and unexplored in most of our films. On the negative side, the film is far too long and should be cut by at least half an hour.
