The fishing village turned into an island

Due to the continuous rains in the Kanyakumari district, the floodwater overflowed in the Kulachal salt marsh. As a result, the salt bank broke and floodwater infiltrated into the nearby fishing village of Simonkalani.

Thus the fishing village looks like an island.

As a result, people there have been paralyzed at home for the past few days without food.

Train service cancelled for the second day

The train service in the Kanyakumari district has been cancelled for the second day today due to heavy rains, which broke canals, ponds and flooded the tracks.

Agricultural lands were submerged

More than 1500 acres of paddy, banana and rubber cultivation have been affected by the continuous rains in the last few days. As well as the view of the floodplain. Farmers are worried that more damage will be done if the rains continue.

Roads cut off

Roads in various parts of Kumari district have been completely damaged and traffic has been disrupted due to heavy rains. Floodwaters have damaged tarred roads between villages due to breakage in ponds.

This morning, tamil Nadu Revenue minister KKSSR Ramachandran inspected the flood-affected areas in the Kanyakumari district with district administration officials. He then met with the general public who were staying in camps in the floodplain area and heard their grievances.

It takes more than 15 days for the general public to recover from the damage. Water has seeped into houses and arable lands due to the rupture of surrounding ponds in the Kumari district.

"It has been raining continuously for more than a month. The district administration kept the evacuated civilians in camps but now we are standing on the road with no way to get out of the camps and even change clothes.

We are staying safe at the house of nearby relatives as the house where they are staying is in a state of disrepair. The water around the houses has started flowing like the rain which has been pouring for three days has decreased since this morning.

However, it has been announced that it will continue to rain.
