Chandrababu Naidu, the former chief minister of andhra pradesh and the President of the telugu desam party (TDP), has written to the tamil Nadu chief minister to express his worry about the smuggling of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice, which is distributed through ration shops to the underprivileged. Rice smugglers are taking advantage of the lack of vigilance between andhra pradesh and tamil Nadu, according to Chandrababu Naidu.

He wrote in his letter, "The rice smuggling mafia is stealing welfare programmes in tamil Nadu and andhra pradesh over the two states' borders. Smugglers are smuggling PDS grains allocated for the poor across the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border due to a lack of supervision."

"PDS rice is being smuggled from tamil Nadu to andhra pradesh by traffickers. The rice millers in andhra pradesh receive the smuggled PDS rice. The rice millers polish the rice and deliver it back to their smuggling partners, who either sell it on the open market for a greater price or sneak it into Karnataka. "The PDS rice is unlawfully procured at a low price and sold on the open market for roughly Rs 40 per kilo," stated the tdp head.

Chandrababu Naidu also detailed the PDS rice smuggling mafia's routes from tamil Nadu to Andhra Pradesh's chittoor area. According to Naidu, roughly 13 charges under the Essential Commodities Act have been lodged in four separate police stations in Andhra Pradesh's kuppam Assembly seat in the last 16 months. The tdp leader asked for increased monitoring along the tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border to combat the smuggling mafia's unlawful movement of PDS rice.
