Following in the footsteps of the andhra pradesh government, the telangana administration issued directives on tuesday prohibiting doctors appointed through direct recruitment from practising private medicine. Doctors in roles filled by transfer from the non-teaching side recruited after Tuesday's announcement will not be able to practise privately, according to the government order (GO Ms No. 56).
The directive comes a day after T Harish Rao, the state's health minister, said on monday that private practise will be prohibited for newly hired employees. The notification is part of the GO to the Special Rules for the telangana Medical education service Rules, which was issued in GO Ms No.154 in May 2002. In april of this year, the government of andhra pradesh forbade government doctors from practising private medicine in the state.
The decision was made by the jagan Mohan reddy cabinet, which entrusted medical and health department personnel with preparing rules and a road plan. The jagan government received feedback from the public that the services provided by government hospitals might be improved even more if doctors' private practises were limited. Doctors practising medicine were found to be adjacent to government hospitals and working in private institutions, which was not allowed under any circumstances.
