World aids Day: history and significance!!!
World aids Day 2022 is celebrated every year on 1 December. The day is celebrated around the world to come together in the fight against hiv, to support hiv victims, to pay tribute to those who died of aids, and to spread awareness about aids in society. According to a report by the World health Organization (WHO), in the year 2021, around 6,50,000 people died due to hiv globally. On the other hand, according to the report of the National aids Control Organization (NACO) of the government of India, in the year 2021, about 42 thousand people died due to aids related diseases and this figure is increasing year by year.
World aids day history
The World health Organization (WHO) established World aids Day on 1 december 1988 to promote aids information sharing among local and national authorities, international organizations (History of World aids Day) and private citizens. In 1988, when World aids Day was celebrated, it was estimated that 90,000 to 1,50,000 people were hiv positive. Since the beginning of this epidemic, about 84.2 million people have been infected with the hiv virus and about 40.1 million people have died of HIV. Till 1996, WHO organized many events annually regarding World aids Day. After that the United Nations agency UNAIDS took these responsibilities in their hands. UNAIDS also established the World aids Campaign (WAC) in 1997 to raise awareness about aids and to collect aids information worldwide.
Significance of World aids Day
World aids Day is important because it is a reminder to the public and the government that hiv is still a serious problem that needs to be done to raise awareness, raise money for those affected by the disease, and to make better choices for them.
