When the main opposition telugu desam party distributed presents during Sankranti, there was a stampede that resulted in three ladies dying and thirteen others being hurt (TDP).

The stampede took place at one of the stations set up for kit distribution, after tdp President and former chief minister N. chandrababu naidu had left the location after starting the programme. Some ladies attempted to advance quickly. women landed on each other when the barricade came down. A woman passed away immediately, and two other people perished at government General Hospital. When V. Rajini, the home minister, visited the hospital, he blamed Naidu for the fatalities. She claimed that because of his publicity stunts, people were dying.

In less than a week, there have been two incidents of this nature at a tdp programme. On december 28, eight people were slain during Naidu's road show in the kandukur town of the nellore region.
