Among the most costly monthly costs of a wage is fuel. people are increasingly moving to electric vehicles as a result of the soaring costs of gasoline and diesel. Meanwhile, some petrol stations are engaging in fraud, which exacerbates the situation. In Kerala, some pumps benefit by extorting petrol station patrons.

One such instance happened in Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram. At Mukkola, Vizhinjam, an ambulance filled up with Rs 500 worth of petrol and proceeded on its way with a patient. The car eventually ran out of petrol, though. At night, the residents blockaded the pump, claiming abnormalities. The arrival of the Legal Metrology Department officials revealed the massive fraud. After receiving 500 rupees, just two rupees worth of petrol was filled.

The officials shut and blocked the pump after verifying the abnormality. A person hurt in an accident on the bypass route was being transported by ambulance to the city hospital. When he got to Enchakkal, the driver claimed that the ambulance broke down on the route when he ran out of petrol. It was discovered when examining the gasoline bill that just 0.02 liters, or Rs. 2.14, had been filled. After moving the patient to another ambulance, the driver went to the pump, asked questions, and then complained.
