Sunil Bharti Mittal, the chairman and founder of Bharti Enterprises, is the first indian citizen to be awarded an honorary knighthood. Mittal received the title of Knight commander of the Most Excellent Order of the british Empire (KBE) from king Charles III as a recognition of his efforts to forge closer commercial connections between india and the UK.
 
"I am deeply humbled by this gracious recognition from His Majesty, king Charles," Mittal stated in an expression of thanks. india and the UK have historical ties that are about to enter a new phase of enhanced cooperation and partnership. I'm still determined to do my part to improve our two wonderful countries' bilateral trade and economic ties.


Mittal also recognised that the UK government was instrumental in fostering an atmosphere that was conducive to investment.
 
He expressed gratitude to the UK government, saying that it has been instrumental in attracting investment to the nation with its support and astute understanding of business needs.
 
One of the greatest awards bestowed upon foreign nationals by the british Sovereign in appreciation for their extraordinary accomplishments is an honorary knighthood.
