A woman journalist working for a prominent multinational media company operating in the capital delhi has alleged that an uber auto rickshaw driver she was traveling with sexually harassed her while she was going from her home to a friend's house. In its tweet, the delhi Commission for women has confirmed that it has received the complaint and has also sent a notice to Uber. Later, a case was registered in this regard and the police are working to find the culprits, delhi police said. It seems that through her tweet, the woman has described her ordeal to the delhi Commission. She said the incident took place last wednesday when she boarded an auto-rickshaw from her residence in Delhi's New Friends Colony to Malaviya nagar to visit a friend.
She went from her house to her friend's place by auto. After some time, she noticed that the driver was looking precisely at her breasts through the side mirror of the auto. She moved slightly to the right and she was not visible in the left side mirror. Then he started looking at the right side of the mirror. She immediately swerved to the left and was not visible in any mirrors. Then he turned to her and started looking again and again. She first tried using Uber's security feature but to no avail, she tweeted.
She mentioned in her tweet that when she dialed the number for the first time, the audio was not clear and she immediately confronted the driver saying that she was going to file a complaint and told him to be generous. Then she dialed the number again but could not hear the audio due to a bad network, she alleged. She also said that she could not cancel the ride as it was a short journey. She later shared with the media that after several hours, uber Care contacted her and filed her complaint. The police said that they have not received any formal complaint in this matter so far. While serving a notice to the delhi police, the Women's Commission has asked for an update by march 6.
In its notice to uber, the group has sought details of measures taken to prevent such incidents.
