After the Kargil Diwas celebrations on July 26, india and china are expected to hold 'commander level' talks to finalise the disengagement in Ladakh. The most recent round of talks took place in january between the 14 Corps commander, Lieutenant-general PGK Menon, and Major General Lin Liu, and since then, there has been another round of Working Mechanism — the WMCC— talks as well as a meeting between External Affairs minister S.Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. naveen Srivastava, the additional secretary for east Asia, is expected to be present this time, as he has been on previous occasions.

It was resolved during the Jaishankar-Wang meeting to have another round of commander-level discussions, with the Chinese first proposing the 26th of July. However, india requested a different date since it is Kargil Diwas, the day on which india commemorates victory and honours the heroes of the undeclared war with pakistan in 1999. On that day, India's President, Mr. ram Nath Kovind, would also be at Kargil. As a result, the meeting will take place after that, most likely towards the end of this month. It's also possible to arrive in early August.

The Gogra and Hot Springs areas of Ladakh will be discussed by india and China. The withdrawal of soldiers in the two regions will be the main topic of discussion. Following skirmishes in Galwan, the conflict with the Chinese began in May of last year. The confrontations claimed the lives of twenty indian soldiers and an unknown number of Chinese soldiers.
