Although She was born into a politically influential family, her opportunities and places in politics did not come easily. Here are some of the events that made Indira gandhi memorable ...

Today is the 37th anniversary of Indira gandhi, the iron Lady of India. In 1950, she was appointed President of the indian national congress by the then prime minister of india, Nehru.

When jawaharlal nehru died in 1964, he was appointed a member of the State Council and minister of Information and Broadcasting in the cabinet of prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

In 1966, lal bahadur shastri was elected the first woman prime minister of india after her death. She has since been elected prime minister four times until his assassination in 1984.

There are various reasons to remember Indira gandhi as the one who introduced the Green Revolution program, nationalized the banks, played a key role in the formation of bangladesh, and was responsible for the first nuclear test at Pokhran.

Yet, the hallmark of a woman leader today is her personality. Being referred to as ‘like Indira Gandhi’ is now the hallmark of a woman with personality.

Although born into a politically influential family, her opportunities and places in indian politics did not come easily. Indira Priyadarshini gandhi is her maiden name. She became involved in politics at the age of 12.

After independence, jawaharlal nehru became the prime minister and Indira gandhi accompanied him on all his foreign trips. Indira gandhi was then given the responsibility of handling foreign ministers and officials.

Thus she was actively involved in politics at a young age. In 1971, various disputes arose between present-day bangladesh and pakistan, now known as east Pakistan. The people of bangladesh called for secession from Pakistan.

The government of india, led by Indira gandhi, then accommodated the people who had fled to india to escape the various atrocities staged by Pakistan. In the ensuing war, Indira gandhi defeated pakistan in 13 days and led to the formation of Bangladesh.

This is the shortest war in history to date. Just as Nehru represented India's pride globally, so did Indira gandhi globally represent India's power.

In a very short period, Indira gandhi nationalized all the banks in India. In the wake of this bold move, public sector banks in india have witnessed tremendous growth.

It was Indira gandhi who annexed the state of sikkim to India. He took legal action to annex the state of sikkim to india so that the agreement could not be discussed in any country or any court so far.

Indira gandhi was the one who showed the world that there are bombs made by india using nuclear at a time when all the developed countries of the world were testing nuclear bombs.

She also conducted a nuclear test at Pokhran. It was Indira gandhi who turned india into a nuclear power 30 years ago.

Although she faced a lot of criticism for her actions, she remained loyal to her decisions.

Indira gandhi, who returned to power after the Emergency,'s attack on the amritsar Golden temple in 1984 caused great unrest among the Sikh community.

She was subsequently shot dead by her bodyguards on october 31, 1984.
