Dungeons & Dragons has grown from a pen-and-paper tabletop RPG to a worldwide phenomenon, but as Wizards of the Coast continues to look for a successful film with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, they might learn a lot from Netflix's Stranger Things. When it aired, the character-driven drama continued its tale through the popular tabletop game and became inextricably linked to the series. Despite not being a direct adaptation of the RPG, the show became one of the brand's most successful missionaries, attracting a significant audience and a new generation of players who are eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

Over the years, Dungeons & Dragons has published a number of official films based on the original tabletop games. Following the failure of three live-action films and two animated features, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro began developing a relaunch starring Chriz Pine, Michele Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant. Most of the movie's specifics have been kept under wraps since its announcement, leaving little insight into the plot or whether it has the capacity to redeem a history of poor releases in the future of Netflix tv shows and episodes forever.
