International Friendship Day - Why it is so special?


Every year on 30 July, Friendship Day is celebrated all over the world. When it comes to family, it is our first school. Friends are the extension of this school. In 2011, this day was recognized by the General assembly of the United Nations as the formally international Day of Friendship. In many countries including india celebrate Friendship Day on first sunday of August. Accordingly, Friendship Day is celebrated in india on 7th August.

What is the history of international Friendship Day?

According to history, the Greeting Card National Association started celebrating Friendship Day in 1920, before the proposal of the World Friendship Crusade. The whole idea was to increase the sales of greeting cards, but then people did not take it hand-in-hand. In 1930, the famous card company Hallmark started celebrating Friendship Day again on august 2, but over time it also disappeared.

According to the United Nations, the purpose of international Day of Friendship is to promote peace and social harmony. There are many problems in our world like poverty, violence and human rights. To deal with these problems and crises, it is very important to be together with each other. Friendship is the simplest example of this.
