Cause of vitamin D deficiency:


A changing diet and an indoor lifestyle with insufficient sun exposure are the main causes of vitamin D deficiency. A higher incidence among young adults is attributed to a lack of vitamin D-rich foods. Seasonal variations in sunlight could also be a possible cause, says rajeev Sharma, MD, Tata 1 MG Labs. Infants, children under five years of age, pregnant women, lactating women, young men and women, people over 65 years of age, and people with less sun exposure are more susceptible to vitamin D deficiency. vitamin D levels should be tested at least every six months or once a year, says Dr. prashant Nag, Medical Head, Tata 1mg Labs.

Increase vitamin D:


Experts recommend that egg yolks, fish oil, red meat, and whole grain foods increase vitamin D levels. Human skin contains a type of cholesterol that acts as a precursor to vitamin D.
