Dig has a fantastic soundtrack with elements of folk and Motown. Sadly, that's where the good times stop. It's possible that Thomas Jane is losing out to his daughter Harlow Jane's acting debut because of how poorly he performs. Even though Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer) toes the line between being horrible and being so bad it's good, the performances ruin every scene. The shadow Diaries' director K. Asher Levin holds the film together, but neither Dig nor its script by Banipal & Benhur Ablakhad are very noteworthy (North Of Reno).

After a gunfight gone horribly wrong, Steve (Thomas Jane) loses his wife. His daughter Jane (Harlow Jane) suffers hearing loss as a result, and the family starts to fall apart. After a year of grieving, Steve still won't take sign language lessons, and Jane continues to blame her father for her mother's passing. Even though everyone around him advises him to learn sign language, Steve decides to bet everything on an experimental procedure that might help Jane regain her hearing. The only issue is that the operation costs $30,000 and Steve has a small repair shop that doesn't make much money despite performing various repairs.

Steve is wary when a masked man (Emile Hirsch) approaches him and offers him the cash, but he can't refuse the opportunity to get his daughter's hearing corrected. The task is easy: Remove everything from a run-down house and tear it down, but whatever you do, avoid damaging the walls. Jane's hearing loss prevents her from hearing that final note, which causes her to unintentionally hit a wall. What they discover inside only leads to danger, as a violent couple holds them captive. To survive and discover what is so precious about this decaying house, you must act quickly.

Harlow The best performance in the movie belongs to Jane. She is giving a performance with a capital A while she is portraying a rebellious teen, but she ends up being the most subdued character in a film with many unimpressive performances. She adds a nice touch and is the ideal fit for the character with the sensitivity she exhibits while preserving that teenage angst. Likewise, the movie's music is excellent. It can occasionally be so wacky that one might mistake it for an Ocean's Eleven movie. In the movie's most solemn scenes, the sound is turned down to a rural folk sound, which improves what would otherwise be a forgettable movie. Very little in the way of direction or cinematography is done behind the camera, and the screenplay sometimes is just plain awful.
