After spending a year at an expensive boarding school, Darious returns to his little village only to discover that he dislikes his former classmates and doesn't get along with his stepdad Malcolm. Darious tries to confide in his high school lover, but she makes it plain that she is not as interested in talking as he is. Darious's loneliness turns into rage after a fistfight with old pals as he grows increasingly lonely. He meets Porter, a vagrant who lives in a boathouse, while bleeding and nursing a bruised ego, and Porter extends to him the camaraderie he so desperately seeks. Following the event, Malcolm and Porter are irritated with Porter's involvement in Darious' life, which also upsets his mother Monica.

The virus of violence. It can spread more quickly than humans can contain it, and once it has a hold on someone, it is impossible to predict when they will act. By expanding on that premise, Bruiser creates a compelling family dynamic. The flame of aggression is carried from father to son and back again like a torch. Hall, the star of The CW's All American, and Anderson (Awake) engage in a prizefight-like verbal and physical exchange. On the other side, Rhodes (Moonlight) manipulates the notion of violence to train the young Hall and conjures up the real ugliness of violence to fool Anderson, his rival.

The fact that Bruiser is a Black movie in the most authentic sense is its most amazing feature. A father's worry about getting his son into a school with a majority of white students is influenced by race. While two Black men brutally beat each other up, race is a factor, but Medina's script is completely cognizant of these topics while still avoiding making them the main focus of the narrative. The 2021 short Warren made into a full-length movie is a suspenseful portrayal of toxic masculinity. Just as exciting is the process of making the movie. The lighting in several sequences is similar to that in horror films, which is ideal for this psychological thriller.

The traditional story of a father and son who are now at odds with one another is told in Bruiser. The risk, of course, is that children are inexperienced and will choose whatever seems most enjoyable or convenient in a dire situation. A lost adult, though, might be just as frightening. The acting, directing, and screenplay are all outstanding. Robert Ouyang Rusli's music is moving and never ceases to astound. Among the movies entered for 2023, Bruiser is one of the greatest thus far.
