Actor Chiyaan vikram won numerous accolades for his portrayal of Aditha Karikalan in Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 by Mani Ratnam. "Thank you for all the love and appreciation Aditha Karikalan aka Chiyaan vikram has received and for the incredible response to PS 2 from all over the world," said Vikram's spokeswoman in a statement. Due to a broken rib he acquired during practise, Chiyaan would be unable to rejoin his Thangalaan unit for a short period of time. He expresses gratitude to everyone for their support and makes a commitment to return to rocking at the earliest opportunity.

Actress malavika Mohanan, who was chosen for the lead role in the movie, was busy getting in shape and dropping a lot of weight in preparation for the movie. She also seemed pleased to start filming. parvathy thiruvothu and Pasupathy Masilamani also have significant parts in Thangalaan, and gv prakash Kumar composed the music for the movie.
