Despite receiving mostly excellent reviews and grossing more than $1.67 billion worldwide, one aspect of the picture – Claire's footwear — proved to be a source of contention among critics and fans. Claire begins the film as Jurassic World's Park Operations Manager, a somewhat stiff and business-minded individual who later becomes one of the film's primary heroes. However, many viewers were offended by Claire's high heels, especially since Pratt's character was dressed more like a traditional action hero. Claire's footwear choice was even dubbed "ridiculous" by one critic.

Howard muses on the controversy Claire's high heels provoked in a recent interview with Variety ahead of the release of the next third movie, Jurassic World: Dominion, indicating that she stands by her decision. After joking that "nobody noticed" Claire's heels, Howard admits that they were an important part of the character and that she felt "empowered" on production. She explains that no amount of criticism will detract from her enjoyment of the experience.
