Is Tirupati becoming another Tada, a haven for alcoholics?

YSR Congress Party leader and Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy says that sharp increase in bars and liquor outlets had led to crime and atrocities on devotees of Lord Venkateswara pilgrims and needs to be scrapped  . He has been demanding a ban on liquor sale in Tirupati whose  municipality survives  only on the revenue  from liquor sale as most of the property in the temple town is not  saleable due to its antique value  and few takers . The CM Kiran has a direct control in District administration and also TTD affairs .

Charging that Kiran Government has made Tirupati into a boozeers haven with booming liquor sale in the temple town he accused the government of creating a state where every street has a wine store and every citizen has a beer bottle in his hand. In fact  the number of liquor outlets have increased from  275  to   510  in past five yeras  during  Reddys  term as MLA for a population of less than five lakhs but a floating population of over three lakhs per day  and consumption has shot up by 40 percent this eyar .

As a border town of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Tirumala accounted for huge illicit liquor flowing through Kuppam increased focus on tourism has transformed Tirupati  from a spiritual town to  boozers  water hole with availability of every IMFL and foreign brands
