Karnataka Election: Recounting - Late-night drama..??


By a razor-thin margin of 16 votes, bjp candidate CK Ramamurthy was declared victorious in Bengaluru's Jayanagar constituency. After several iterations of recounting, the outcome was declared amidst congress protests at the R v Institute of Management in Bengaluru's Jayanagar assembly district. According to the ec website, C K Ramamurthy received 57,797 votes, whereas sowmya reddy of the congress received 57,781 votes (47.85 percent of the vote).

Candidates and supporters from the bjp and congress were on edge till late saturday night because Soumya reddy, the congress contender, had a slim lead over Ramamurthy. After several iterations of counting, reddy and Ramamurthy were separated by just 294 points. As congress supporters rejoiced, the bjp called for a recount. Voting officials concurred.

DK Shivakumar, the head of the karnataka congress, charged that sowmya Reddy's election results had been manipulated by election commission officials. Shivakumar tweeted a photo of himself and state working president Ramalinga reddy sitting together and said, "The congress candidate of Jayanagar assembly Constituency Mrs. Soumya reddy came out on top but objected to against the conduct of the election administrators who tried to distort the result on the pretext of recount." sowmya Reddy's father is Ramalinga Reddy. After hours of anxious anticipation, C K Ramamurthy of the bjp was named the victor by a slim margin of 16 votes.
