The Central health Department has ordered that the OTD works should also contain warning words about tobacco products in the same way as the films released in theaters.

When there are scenes of using tobacco products including cigarettes in movies, there are warning words about it. While this is currently only available in films released in theatres, the central government has decided to implement it in OTT films and web series as well. The Union health Ministry has issued a notification to this effect after consultation with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

According to a notification issued by the Union health Ministry today (May 31) revising the rules on cigarettes and other tobacco products, the Union health Ministry and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry have warned that publishers of online content will face strict action if they fail to follow these new rules.

Also, leading OTT platforms like Netflix and amazon Prime have been mandated to feature a 30-second tobacco warning video at the beginning and middle of the content. Apart from these, a 20 second audio clipping related to tobacco warning should also be included. Stay tuned for more updates.
