On the morning of May 11, KR Gouri Amma, one of Kerala's most powerful politicians, died. She died at the PRS hospital in thiruvananthapuram at 7 a.m. She was 102 years old. Gouri Amma was admitted to the hospital in april with a viral infection-related fever. Her health had deteriorated to the point that she needed to be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit over a week earlier. Gouri Amma's life and political career are unrivalled in the state's culture, as a visionary who overcame adversity. She was the state's first woman lawyer from the ezhava caste, which is classified as Other Backward Class (OBC).

Born in July 1919 at Pattanakkad village of alappuzha, Gouri Amma went on to become a graduate in law and set up a practice in Cherthala. She joined the Communist party in 1948, and her political career grew with the party. Gouri Amma participated in trade union and peasant movements and was jailed on numerous occasions. She stood with the CPI(M) post the split of the Communist party in 1964, while her husband and veteran leader tv Thomas supported the CPI.

In 1994, the CPI(M) expelled Gouri Amma for 'anti-party activities. She then floated her own political outfit named Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithi based in Alappuzha. In 2021 she stepped down as the General Secretary of the JSS due to poor health.

Gouri Amma, who was born in the village of Pattanakkad in alappuzha in July 1919, went on to study law and open a practice in Cherthala. She became a member of the Communist party in 1948, and her political career expanded with it. Gouri Amma was a member of the trade union and peasant movements who was imprisoned many times. She supported the CPI(M) after the Communist party split in 1964, while her ex, veteran leader tv Thomas, backed the CPI. Gouri Amma was removed from the CPI(M) in 1994 for "anti-party practises." She then established the Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithi, a political party based in Alappuzha. She resigned as the JSS's General Secretary in 2021 due to illness.
