Uttar Pradesh congress has started working on its old Brahmin, Dalit and Muslim formula. After being
disappointed with other experiments, congress is busy in reworking its old equations. The changes in UP
congress before the 2024 elections and the strategies of UP congress are pointing towards bringing together
its old formula of congress Brahmins, Dalits and Muslims. Recently, after the appointment of ajay Rai
(Bhumihar, Brahmin) as the president, people who understand congress are talking about BDM formula.
Congress's BDM formula has been most favorable and on its basis congress has ruled in power for decades.
Now, with this equation, congress will fight aggressively to gain its ground.
Talking about UP congress, congress had contested the 2009 lok sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh under the
leadership of rita bahuguna joshi (Brahmin) and then congress had won 21 seats. After this, in the 2012
assembly elections also, congress got 28 seats in Uttar Pradesh, but after this, congress started using non-
Brahmins and the condition of congress continued to worsen in 2014, 2017, 2019 and 2022.
What was the situation during the time of which state president?
After rita bahuguna joshi, congress made nirmal Khatri the president and during his tenure, the Congress
party could win only Amethi and Rae bareli in the 2014 lok sabha elections. After this, the party gave the
command to raj babbar and he remained the president till 2019, but during his tenure also many experiments
were done, he contested the assembly elections with SP, but the party's support base kept shrinking. In the
2017 assembly elections, congress could win only 7 seats and in the lok sabha elections, the party lost even
its old seat Amethi. He had to be satisfied only with Rae Bareli. After raj babbar, the party made backward
class leader ajay Lalu the state president, but the party continued to be marginalized and could win only two
seats in the 2022 elections. State President Lallu also lost the election in this election. As an experiment, the
congress made Brijlal Khabri, a Dalit leader who left the Bahujan Samaj party and joined the congress, as its
state president, but the party did not get any benefit from him and the congress was marginalized in the local
bodies elections, then in just 10 months the party removed them.
