According to the schedule released by maharashtra assembly Speaker rahul Narvekar, the cross-examination
regarding the disqualification petitions of shiv sena MLAs will begin from november 23. shiv sena has
criticized this move and termed it as a strategy to delay the process. According to the fixed schedule, cross-
examination will be conducted twice a week.
The supreme court had last week directed the maharashtra assembly Speaker to inform within a week the time
frame for decision on the disqualification petitions filed against chief minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena
MLAs close to him. The court had said that despite directions to decide the petitions within a reasonable time,
clearly nothing has been done so far. Last year, two rival factions of shiv sena had filed disqualification
petitions against each other after Shinde and 39 MLAs parted ways from the parent party.
The Shinde-led shiv sena faction had joined hands with the bharatiya janata party (BJP) to form the new
government in maharashtra in june 2022. uddhav Thackeray-led shiv sena (UBT) has sharply criticized the
program prepared by the assembly Speaker. shiv sena leader and former minister Anil Parab called it a delay
tactic and said that the assembly Speaker can complete the hearing of disqualification petitions within a month.
Anil Parab said that many developments in the case are accepted facts, hence there is no reason for delay in the
hearing. He said, 'The matter should be over in a month. This is our request. Whenever this program will be
placed before the supreme court, we will present our views.' He said that after november 23, there will be a
winter session of the state legislature, so the hearing will not be held during that time also.
