The biggest steel companies in the country should set up factories in Bellary. In 2009 and 2010, 13000 acres of land was acquired by the government through KIDB. So far no single factory has been set up. Now the government is planning to use this land for another purpose, but the farmers who gave the land are not agreeing. Also they are asking to revise the compensation given and give additional money. See a report on this here.

Yes, it was planned to make a steel hub by constructing steel factories on the Bellary-Hospet route. Thirteen thousand acres of land belonging to local farmers were seized by KIDB for construction of other factories like Brahmini, lakshmi Mittal, NMDC. Due to various reasons, the factory has not been built till now. Now the government has decided to give land to small companies for making small scale industry in 700 acre area of Haragindoni village. The farmers have alleged that the land is being taken from the farmers at a low price and sold to small scale industries for additional money as the farmers who have given the land are not agreeing to this. 700 acres of land in Hargidoni was acquired for 6 to 8 lakhs in 2009 and 2010. Now it seems that the government is selling it for 54 lakhs per acre by making it a small steel industry area through some development mode. Farmers do not agree to this. We have already reduced the compensation money and now we are not getting work even if we go to other small industries. In addition to this, they are now insisting that they give us additional money as stipulated by the court. Hodre has warned that he will fight fiercely to force industry.
For so long, those who got the land did not build a factory. At present, the farmers are not agreeing to the government for setting up different small steel industries. They are saying that they will allow the industry to be set up only after the compensation money is not distributed first. Thus, the district administration has failed to find a solution to this complex problem since last ten years.
