The united states announced a visa waiver program on Thursday, enabling Israelis who want to visit the country for 90 days or fewer to do so without asking for a visa, in light of the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict. israel now joins a limited club of 40 largely european and Asian nations whose residents are permitted entry into the united states for a three-month period without a visa, after the united states announced on september 27 that it was adding israel to its visa waiver program.

At the time, the united states announced that Israelis would no longer need a visa to enter the country as of november 30. The Department of Homeland Security stated via a news release that the program was running as of Thursday.

In a news statement on Thursday, officials provided no explanation for the revised schedule. However, Hamas attacked multiple sites in southern israel a few days after israel was accepted into the visa waiver program. Since then, as it gets ready for a ground invasion, the Israeli force has been attacking areas of the Gaza Strip nonstop.

Israelis must first register with the Electronic System for Travel Authorization in order to participate in the waiver program. According to Homeland Security's news release, the automated technology aids in determining if the individual is qualified to travel. Up to 72 hours may pass throughout the procedure. They can then go to the United States. Israelis need to have a passport with biometrics activated in order to qualify. According to the agency, anyone without such a passport still needs to apply for a U.S. visa.
