This is the first time in chhattisgarh assembly that no member of the royal family has been elected. Seven
members of these families have faced defeat in the state. This time in the chhattisgarh assembly elections,
Congress and bjp had fielded three members each of the royal families as their candidates, while the Aam Aadmi
Party had fielded one member of the royal family.
All three congress candidates were MLAs who could not save their seats. After the formation of chhattisgarh in
2000, all five terms of the assembly were filled by members of former royal families. In this election, influential
Congress leader and deputy chief minister T S Singhdev lost his Ambikapur seat by a narrow margin of 94 votes.
He belongs to the former royal family of Surguja.
TS Singhdev lost to Rajesh Aggarwal
Rajesh Aggarwal, who left congress and joined bjp before the assembly elections in 2018, has defeated him.
Singhdev had won the assembly elections three consecutive times in 2008, 2013 and 2018. It is believed that
Singhdev's family has a lot of influence in Surguja division of North Chhattisgarh. In 2018, congress had won all
the 14 assembly constituencies of this region, but this time bjp won all these seats. ambika Singhdev, a member
of another royal family from Surguja region, was fielded by congress as its candidate from Baikunthpur seat but
she lost to BJP's Bhaiyalal Rajwade by a margin of 25,413 votes. ambika Singhdev belongs to the royal family of
Korea who has been active in the politics of the state. Ramchandra Singhdev from this family was the first Finance
Minister of chhattisgarh during the congress government led by Ajit Jogi. ambika Singhdev had defeated
Rajwade from this seat in 2018.
