According to sources the bombay high court on thursday issued a notice to the maharashtra government and sought its response on a PIL filed against the decision to give 10 percent reservation in jobs and education to the maratha community. Moreover Shivba organization leader Manoj Jarange-Patil has ended his 17-day long hunger strike in his village Antarwali-Sarti on the request of the maratha community and the maharashtra government. After treatment, he will start a statewide journey for maratha reservation. Jarange-Patil canceled his plans to go to mumbai, broke his hunger strike, but announced that the movement to achieve quota for Marathas under 'sej-soyare' (family lineage) would continue to its logical end. Last week, in a special session of the maharashtra Legislature, the state government passed the maharashtra State Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Peoples Bill, 2024, giving 10 percent quota to Marathas. Jarange-Patil are adamant on declaring Marathas as 'Kunbi caste' and giving them a separate quota from the OBC category, a formal notification for 'Sej-Soare' after the release of the draft on january 26 and other demands.
