Millions of coconut trees in drought - Dear

Cut and sell drought -affected trees up to Rs. But now the coconut trees have been weakened by the drought, and the wooden mills have not come forward to buy them for construction, ”Anbumani said.

Coconut trees

Due to the unprecedented temperature and drought in tamil Nadu, 2.5 crore coconut trees are being dumped in the districts of coimbatore and Tirupur alone. In his statement, coconut has been cultivated in the areas of Pollachi, Anaimalai, Udumalai and Kinnathu in the districts of coimbatore and Tirupur.

There are more than 2.5 crores of coconut trees in these areas alone. However, these trees have begun to grow due to severe drought and the heat of grabbing over the past few weeks.

Lack of water

All the irrigation sources have not only dried up, but the ground water level has gone to Adalapadalam and the Kongu region has been forced to buy water through the cargo and flow to the coconut trees. A tree should be reduced per day and watered 40 liters of water. Watering a tree per day can cost Rs 10 to 13. The farmer who holds 1000 coconut trees will have to spend Rs.4.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh a month to water them. This is not possible for the majority of farmers. So, the majority of trees could not be saved. Farmers say that more than one and a half million trees cannot be saved from drought.

Cut and sell drought -affected trees up to Rs. But now that the coconut trees are weakened by the drought, the wooden mills have not come forward to buy them for construction. This, in turn, has created a serious loss for the farmers. The same situation is similar to the Kongu region, including the Cauvery irrigation districts. All the crops including mango, coconut and papaya have been severely affected by the drought in tamil Nadu. This is because irrigation projects in tamil Nadu are not adequately implemented. In tamil Nadu, there is more rain every year.

Offer 10 thousand compensation to a tree

Only the rivers in tamil Nadu alone mix the water from 150 TMC to 200 tmc each year. Although drought is not completely prevented by building barriers across rivers, incorporating irrigation sources including lakes and ponds in one area, and implementing groundwater enrichment plans. To temporarily solve the grief of the farmers, the government of tamil Nadu has to pay compensation of Rs 10,000 per tree for drought -affected coconut trees. Anbumani said he urged the implementation of water management programs to prevent such a situation in the near future.
