Former tamil Nadu bjp President K. annamalai has stepped down from his role as election in-charge for six assembly constituencies in tamil Nadu.

He cited his father’s deteriorating health as the primary reason for his decision.

Annamalai said his father is undergoing regular dialysis, which requires his constant presence and care.

Reason for Resignation

Speaking to the media on february 3, Annamalai said he had informed the tamil Nadu bjp leadership about his inability to continue in the role.

He specifically mentioned that he conveyed his decision to TN bjp President Nainar Nagendran.

Annamalai stated that family responsibility takes precedence, calling his father’s care his “first duty.”

Due to the situation, he expressed his inability to travel extensively for poll-related work.

Constituencies Earlier Assigned to Him

Annamalai was appointed as the election in-charge for the following six assembly constituencies:

Singanallur

Virugambakkam (Chennai)

Karaikudi

Srivaikuntam

Madurai (South)

Padmanabhapuram (Kanniyakumari)

Stand on party Responsibilities

Despite stepping down, annamalai said he remains committed to the BJP.

He expressed willingness to work for party candidates and alliance partners in any capacity assigned to him.

He added that the party leadership has understood his situation.

The BJP is expected to appoint another leader to take over his responsibilities.

On Contesting the Elections

When asked whether he would contest the upcoming assembly elections, annamalai said he would act according to the party’s decision.

He did not confirm or deny his candidature at this stage.

Political Reactions

Killiyoor congress MLA Rajesh Kumar criticised Annamalai’s decision.

He alleged that annamalai resigned due to “poll fever” and fear of defeat.

Rajesh Kumar claimed that the bjp would not succeed in Kanniyakumari, asserting that the party symbol “Lotus” would not bloom in the region.
