Yogi Adityanath’s Poetic Taunt at Samajwadi party in the UP Assembly
Speaking in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative assembly on february 13, cm yogi Adityanath addressed the house during the discussion on the Governor’s address and strongly criticized the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi party (SP).
Taking a poetic dig at the SP, he recited a famous couplet by mirza Ghalib: “There was dust on your face, you kept cleaning the mirror.”
Through this metaphor, he implied that the opposition was blaming others instead of introspecting about its own shortcomings.
CM yogi said the opposition’s conduct during the Governor’s address was inappropriate and hurt the dignity of the House. He stated that the entire state felt insulted by the behavior of the Samajwadi party members.
He accused the SP of tarnishing the image of Uttar Pradesh in the past and said their actions had previously brought disrepute to the state. He also alleged that their conduct amounted to disrespect toward women power.
Highlighting the transformation of the state, he said that Uttar Pradesh was once viewed with suspicion, but today it is seen as a growth engine of India’s development. He emphasized that no one now refers to the state as “sick,” as was allegedly the case earlier.

Referring to the period before 2017, cm yogi claimed there was policy apathy and anti-development thinking. In contrast, he said that over the last nine years, his government has established a new model of disciplined and inclusive development.
He further alleged that before 2017, a “parallel government of goons” operated in the state. According to him, riots and curfews were common, and law and order had collapsed.
The chief minister stated that earlier, youth in Uttar Pradesh faced an identity crisis, whereas today they benefit from government schemes without discrimination. He reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime and criminals.
He also claimed that in the past, mafias flourished under political protection and that neither daughters nor businessmen felt safe. Now, he asserted, there is an atmosphere of faith rather than fear in Uttar Pradesh.
Citing religious gatherings as proof of improved law and order, he said that around 12 crore people attended the Kumbh Mela, and 21 crore devotees participated in the Prayagraj Magh Mela, reflecting a peaceful and celebratory environment in the state.
