Social Networking Companies in trouble..? Rules Amendment..?

The federal government has decided to set up a grievance appellate committee with separate powers to appeal against decisions made by grievance redressal authorities on social networking sites, including facebook and Twitter. 30 days are there to comment for the public to comment. Millions of people use social networking sites like facebook, twitter, WhatsApp, and Instagram. In particular, facebook and YouTube are the largest users of social media in our country. On these social media outlets, it was alleged that false information that could jeopardize the sovereignty and security of the country, defamatory comments about individuals, and posts that incite religious hatred were unrestrictedly shared. To control this and bring justice to the individuals affected by these records, the federal government enacted information technology rules last year. Accordingly, social networking companies with more than 50 lakh users were compelled to appoint a grievance officer, an assistant officer, and individual officers locally to oversee the execution of orders issued by them. twitter has been hit hard by the federal government for delaying the execution of the order. Eventually, the company also appointed grievance officers.Allegations arose that the solutions offered by these grievance authorities were also discriminatory. Various parties have complained that users' records are being deleted and accounts are being blocked for no apparent reason. To this end, the Information technology Guidelines are to be amended in the 'Digital' Act. In addition, the new amendment provides for social networking sites to respond within 72 hours if users' complaints are subject to 10 types of government violations. The public has been allowed to comment on the amendment within the next 30 days. The decision to amend the rules will be made based on public feedback.
