Param Vir Chakra, the country's highest gallantry award, is mostly given posthumously. In such a situation, if a person says that his dream is to get 'Param Vir Chakra', then it means that the person himself has come out with his life on his palm. Captain Manoj Pandey, who was martyred on 3 July 1999 in the Kargil War, was one such Paramveer who sacrificed his life for the defense of the country. Captain Manoj Pandey was awarded the 'Param Vir Chakra' for his bravery and gallantry. 

Captain Manoj Pandey was born in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. Born on june 25, 1974, Captain Manoj Pandey became a martyr for the country at the age of only 25 and his name will be immortalized forever. Manoj Pandey, son of small businessmen Gopichand Pandey and mohini Pandey, had decided his direction from school itself. He studied at Sainik School. Due to his studies from Sainik school, things like body building and boxing became his hobby. In the year 1990, he was also selected as the best cadet of the junior Division of NCC.

Manoj Pandey replied to the interview panel, 'My dream is to get the Param Vir Chakra. This is my motive for joining the army. Captain Manoj Pandey cleared the nda exam and was in training for four years. After graduating from the 90th course of nda, he got his first commission in the 11th Battalion of Gorkha Rifles.


When infiltration started in Kargil in May 1999, Captain Manoj Pandey's battalion was returning after spending a year and a half in Siachen. At that time, this battalion was given posting in Pune, but in view of the situation in Kargil, the battalion of Captain Manoj Pandey was deployed in the Batalik sector.
