On September 7, 2025, uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the beautification project, complete with modern lighting, heritage restoration, and community-focused initiatives. 1 Grand Makeover of the Clock Tower

The historic Clock Tower, often called the identity of dehradun, has undergone a transformation worth Rs 1.5 crore. The beautification includes heritage restoration, a modern design touch, and an automated lighting system that will keep the tower glowing vibrantly at night.


2 A Boost to Tourism & Nightlife 

CM Dhami emphasized that the renewed look will attract more tourists and give residents a sense of pride. With dynamic lighting displays, the tower will now add life to Dehradun’s nightlife, turning it into a new hub of cultural and social gatherings.


3Women Empowerment Through “Hilans Outlets” 

Alongside the inauguration, the cm launched four “Hilans-cum-Kitchen Outlets” near the Clock Tower. Operated by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs), these outlets will:

  • Promote local hill products.
  • Provide self-employment opportunities.
  • Strengthen women’s role in the state’s economy.


4 Hilans Canteens for Affordable Food 

The cm also announced four Hilans canteens at the Collectorate, Coronation Hospital, Guchhupani, and ISBT. These canteens will offer affordable, quality meals while showcasing Uttarakhand’s traditional and organic products, giving a double push to nutrition and local economy.


5 Campaign to Eradicate Child Begging 

A special campaign has been launched in dehradun to rescue children from begging and connect them with education.

  • Phase 1: 51 children rescued and enrolled in schools.
  • Phase 2: 31 children admitted to Govt. Primary school (Parade Ground) and Sadhuram Inter College.
  • An intensive care centre is also being built at Sadhuram Inter college with an investment of Rs 1.5 crore.

The cm assured, “We will continue until every child in our state is enrolled in school.”


6 Sustainable Urban Development 

The government is focusing on green mobility with:

  • 30 new electric buses for city travel.
  • 11 charging stations for private EVs.

These steps align with the state’s push toward environmental conservation and reducing pollution.


7 Tackling Traffic & Parking 

To solve Dehradun’s growing traffic woes, multiple projects are underway:

  • Underground parking facilities at key spots.
  • Plans for elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers to reduce congestion.


8 Big Picture: Holistic Development 

CM Dhami highlighted that nearly Rs 1,400 crore worth of development projects are currently active in Dehradun. These cover infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment generation, ensuring that the city grows as a modern, sustainable, and people-friendly capital.
