The history of Bayer, who took an adventure-filled show to this stage, has been associated with the cricket field. His grandfather Neville ford and great-grandfather William Augustus ford have both been prolific cricketers. Baer's father, Sir Michael Grylls, was a Conservative party politician.

Bayer's older sister Lara Fassett is a tennis coach. His sister had given him the nickname Bear. Bayer fulfilled his dream of climbing Everest in 1998 at the age of 23. After 18 months, his spinal cord was fractured in an accident during paragliding. It is said that his condition had become such that it was not possible to be normal again, but Bear Grylls never gave up and see today he is on different heights of success. Bear Grylls wrote Facing Up (UK)/The Kid Who Climbed Everest (US). Then came his books Facing the frozen Ocean, Born Survivor: Bear Grylls Outdoor Adventures.
