A red alert has been issued for the Thoothukudi district following an orange alert which has been issued today morning.

The chennai Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in many parts of the southern Bay of bengal this afternoon (Nov. 25). Due to the heavy rain, the road was flooded. 

Schools and colleges in tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts were given half-day off due to heavy rains.

A red alert has been issued for the Thoothukudi district due to heavy rains. thiruchendur has received 18 cm of rainfall in the last 8 hours. 

Atmospheric mantle circulation in the Bay of bengal is unlikely to change to a low-pressure area under the current conditions. Ramanathapuram, Nellai, Thoothukudi, Pudukottai and Nagai districts will receive heavy to very heavy rains with thundershowers at one or two places today due to this overcast cycle. 

Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Kanyakumari, Delta districts and one or two places in Karaikal are likely to receive heavy showers with thunder and lightning. 

The rest of the coastal districts, pondicherry and the southern districts will receive moderate to heavy showers in many places and light to moderate showers in most parts of the hinterland.
