Rumour caused stampede- 3 dead...
3 people died in a stampede at the program of leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari (BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari) in asansol, West Bengal. In the presence of bjp leader Suvendu Adhikari, this event was organized on wednesday evening to distribute blankets among the people, in which chaos spread due to overcrowding and there was a stampede among the people to get the blankets first. Meanwhile, 3 people, including 1 child, died due to being crushed by falling down, while four others were injured.
Suvendu was not present at the time of the accident
According to a police official, the blanket distribution program in asansol of West Burdwan district was organized by former Mayor Jitendra Tiwari and his wife. Suvendu Adhikari was invited as the chief guest in this program. Suvendu Adhikari left shortly after inaugurating the program organized in ramakrishna area of Asansol. As soon as they left, there was a stampede and an accident happened.
Suvendu's allegation
Shubhendu Adhikari has issued his statement on social media expressing grief after the accident. He said in the tweet- I attended a religious program in the asansol Corporation area. Worshipped there and left from there after about an hour. While I was present, very good arrangements were made by the police. The crowd was being handled well. When I later inquired about this tragic incident from the organizers, I came to know that the police arrangement was cancelled after I left. Even the volunteer workers were asked to leave. This terrible accident should not have happened. I offer the families of the deceased my sympathies.
There was a rumor that the blanket was over
According to sources, after Shubhendu Adhikari left the stage after inaugurating, the rumor of blankets running out spread in the crowd that reached the programme. Because of this rumor, everyone started competing to get the blanket first and a stampede broke out. Due to this competition to get blankets, 7 people were crushed, out of which 3 died. Four injured have been admitted to asansol district Hospital.
