The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the telangana police has been investigating the "Cash for MLAs" case until the supreme court cleared the way for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation on Wednesday. However, the cbi has already begun putting pressure on the state government. The telangana administration was requested in as many as five letters from the cbi between december 31 and february 6 to turn over the documents relating to an alleged attempt to steal four Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLAs for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In an attempt to stop the cbi from taking over the MLAs' poaching case, the telangana administration unsuccessfully petitioned the single judge bench, division bench of the high court, and finally the supreme Court. A division bench of the supreme court, presided over by Chief Justice of india D Y Chandrachud, declined on wednesday to hear the state government's special leave plea contesting the high court decision. The matter was scheduled for hearing on february 17 by the bench.

Siddharth Luthra, a senior supreme court attorney, submitted a special mention before the CJI and asked for a stay on the high court decision or an order to maintain the status quo. He claimed that the cbi had repeatedly written letters to the state chief secretary and had put pressure on the state police to turn over the materials related to the investigation into an alleged mla poaching case.
