Do women in india get a fair deal?

Across fields, the glass roof is shattered. However, much more must be done to guarantee gender equality.

Do women in india receive an equitable deal? This is an issue that deserves to be raised on international Women's Day, even at the risk of being seen as symbolic. The data speaks for itself. Only 14% of candidates who ran as women won seats in the lok sabha in the 2019 parliamentary elections. The latest Periodic Labour Force survey report shows that only 33% of women over the age of 15 are employed or even looking for work, compared to 77% of their male peers (PLFS).

According to the Time Use survey (TUS) carried out between january and december 2019, the average indian woman spends 19.5% of her time performing either unpaid household labour or unpaid caregiving services.

The percentage for males is only 2.5%.

According to the most recent National Family health survey (NFHS), 58% of indian women between the ages of 15 and 49 are anaemic, which is more than double the percentage of males with this condition.

The indian constitution forbids s*x-based discrimination and gives the government the authority to implement special steps for them.

The rights of women in india are primarily protected by the Constitution, which emphasises equality, respect, and freedom from discrimination. india also has numerous laws that protect women's rights.
