As Manchester City defeated West Ham 3-0 on wednesday to retake the top spot in the Premier League standings from Arsenal, Haaland netted his 35th goal of the year. Nathan Ake's early header and Phil Foden's deflected volley set up the delicate finish, which propelled him above Andy Cole and Alan Shearer to become the Premier League's leading scorer in a single season.
In his first season in the top division with Newcastle in 1993–94, Cole scored 34 goals, while Alan Shearer accomplished the same the following year with Blackburn.
