Even though DMK won the elections in 2006 with 163 seats, the party never secured an independent lead. Along with the help of the congress party, it completed its tenure for 5 years. DMK just managed 96 seats out of 163. But after a long hiatus, the party has managed to get an independent lead by crossing the majority mark of 118 seats. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led coalition will return to power in tamil Nadu after a 10-year gap.

The indian national congress won 16 seats and was leading in 2. Thirumavalavan's VCK party has bagged four seats. In the ADMK party, they have managed to win 63 seats and are leading in 3. Their allied parties bjp has won three and leading in one seat. PMK has won five seats. cm EPS and deputy cm OPS won by a solid margin.
