Group captain varun Singh was the only survivor of a helicopter crash near Coonoor in the Nilgiris yesterday.


Varun Singh, who was treated at Wellington army Hospital, is being shifted to Bangalore for further treatment.


"I pray for his full recovery," Defense minister Rajnath Singh was quoted as saying on the ministry's official twitter page.

The tamil Nadu government has made special arrangements to treat him in coimbatore to deal with the need to transfer him to another hospital. Group Captain varun Singh had gone to Sulur to pick up General Rawat, who had come to address the students at the army Training college in Wellington.


"Group captain varun Singh, who was recovered with serious injuries, is currently being treated with life-saving equipment," Defense minister Rajnath Singh told parliament at 11 a.m. today.

On wednesday night, varun Singh underwent major surgery and is currently being treated in the intensive care unit, said Akhilesh Pratap Singh.


Varun Singh's father krishna Pratap is a retired colonel in the indian Army.


"Currently varun Singh's parents live in Bhopal. Captain varun Singh was hired in Wellington, tamil Nadu. varun Singh lives in tamil Nadu with his wife and two children," said krishna Pratap Singh's elder brother Dinesh Pratap Singh.

He was a Wing commander in the Light Combat air Force. On Independence Day 2021, he bought the Shaurya Chakra Medal from President Ramnath Govind for his unparalleled bravery.


On october 12, 2020, the Ministry of Defense issued a statement. The statement said, "He was involved in training a fighter jet during a test flight.


"He encountered this problem in an environment where the plane was flying very high. Even in a crisis situation, he correctly identified the problem and reduced the altitude."


"But he planned, acted bravely and tactfully, brought the plane back under his control and landed safely."


"In this way, he saved the aircraft belonging to the air Force from being damaged.


He was awarded the Shaurya Chakra Medal on Independence Day 2021 for such a courageous act.
