However, there are 22 assembly constituencies in the corporation, but there are only 16 assembly constituencies in the chennai district. The remaining six assembly constituencies are located in the districts of Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur. There were persistent calls for these six constituencies to be merged into the chennai district.

In this regard, during yesterday's debate in the assembly on the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply's grant request, minister Nehru said that the zones in chennai Corporation will be increased according to the assembly constituency. According to chennai Corporation authorities, the chennai Corporation is likely to become 20 zones in this situation. "Initially, the zones would be updated according to the assembly constituency," chennai Corporation officials stated. In the corporation's manali zone, there are only eight wards. In the meantime, the Denampet zone has 18 wards.
