The andhra pradesh government reinstated A.B. Venkateswara Rao's suspension on Tuesday, less than two weeks after lifting it and assigning him a new position. The officer was ordered suspended by the state government for breaking company policy by speaking to the media without authorization. Chief Secretary sameer Sharma gave the indian Police service (IPS) officer a show cause notice in april for speaking to the media about the Pegasus controversy.

He allegedly broke Rule 6 of the All india services Rules by conducting a news conference without first obtaining consent from the state government, according to the notification. After assembly Speaker tammineni sitaram declared that a house Committee will be formed to look into the Pegasus matter, Venkateswara Rao, who served as the intelligence chief under the previous telugu desam party (TDP) administration, had a press conference. The declaration was made in response to a request from members of the ruling ysr congress Party (YSRCP), who requested a comprehensive investigation in light of mamata Banerjee's alleged accusation that the tdp administration led by chandrababu naidu had purchased malware from Pegasus.

At a press conference, Venkateswara Rao stated that up until april 2019, neither the intelligence wing nor any other government agency had purchased or utilised Pegasus spyware. The state administration is in charge of clearing the air on the Pegasus problem, he had previously said, adding that the state's residents are in a condition of anxiety and grief due to the recent happenings. Venkateswara Rao, an officer from the 1989 class, was suspended by the state government in february 2020 due to allegations of misbehaviour and anomalies in the acquisition of security equipment.
